Community, Connection, and Crust: Our Monthly ASL Social Gathering
The journey of learning American Sign Language doesn't end when the classroom lights go out. To truly master the language and honor the culture, one must step into the community. That is why we gather on the first Sunday of every month at Stadium Pizza in Temecula, CA. These socials are a vital cornerstone of our mission, promoting lifelong learning by bringing together a diverse mix of Deaf community members, ITP students, and beginning signers in a relaxed, real-world setting.
A Safe Space for Skill Development
We know that signing in public for the first time can feel intimidating. Our monthly gathering is intentionally designed as a safe space where the "fear of the mistake" is left at the door. Whether you are a student working on your first hundred signs or a veteran signer looking to keep your skills sharp, this is your environment to practice without the pressure of a grade. By immersion in a supportive, "no-voice" atmosphere, you’ll find your confidence growing alongside your vocabulary, all while receiving immediate, friendly feedback from peers and mentors.
Traditions and Togetherness
Our format is simple and community-focused:
Support Local: We love our host, Stadium Pizza! Everyone is responsible for purchasing their own meal, allowing us to support a local business that graciously provides us the space to meet.
Monthly Celebrations: No gathering is complete without a little sweetness. To honor our community members, a Birthday Cake is served every single month to celebrate those turning a year older. It’s our way of ensuring that every member feels seen and valued beyond their linguistic skills.
🤟 Why Your Presence Matters
Supporting the Deaf community in Temecula means showing up. When you attend these socials, you aren't just practicing a skill; you are combating social isolation and helping to build a more inclusive city. Your participation ensures that ASL remains a visible and vibrant part of Temecula’s social fabric. Whether you come for the pizza, the practice, or the cake, you are helping to sustain a bridge of communication that lasts a lifetime.
