Bring History to Life: The Deaf President Now Presentation
Professor Lee is proud to offer a powerful, complimentary presentation specifically for local high schools, focusing on the historic Deaf President Now (DPN) movement. This pivotal moment in 1988 didn't just change Gallaudet University; it transformed the civil rights landscape for Deaf individuals worldwide. By bringing this presentation to your campus, you provide students with a deep dive into the activism, leadership, and cultural pride that define the modern Deaf community.
To ensure every student has the chance to engage with this vital history, schools can schedule Professor Lee for a full-day residency. This format is designed to accommodate the typical school schedule, comfortably serving 5 to 7 ASL class periods back-to-back. It's an efficient and impactful way to provide high-quality, guest-lecture content across all levels of your ASL program, from beginners to advanced learners, without the logistical hurdles of a field trip.
Beyond the historical lecture, this initiative serves as a significant professional development opportunity. Both high school ASL students and college-level ITP students are encouraged to attend and participate. Participants are eligible to earn 3 to 5 hours of participation or service credit per day, making it an excellent way to fulfill graduation requirements or internship hours while gaining a profound understanding of Deaf history and advocacy.
